This July, Mount Olive gives thanks to God for a remarkable milestone in the lives and ministries of Pastor Robert Raasch and Pastor Joel Zank.
After 40 years in the public ministry, Pastor Raasch (31 years at Mount Olive) and Pastor Zank (30 years at Mount Olive) will retire from active ministry. For more than three decades, they have faithfully proclaimed God’s Word, administered the Sacraments, taught the faith, comforted the grieving, celebrated life’s joys, and pointed countless people to the hope found in Jesus Christ.
While their years of service are impressive, the true reason for our celebration is not the number of years, but God’s faithfulness through them. He has used their unique gifts, compassionate hearts, and unwavering commitment to the gospel to strengthen generations of believers, welcome new members into Christ’s family, encourage future church workers, and share the saving message of Jesus with our community and beyond.
Pastor Raasch came to Mount Olive in 1995 after serving an exploratory mission in Houghton, Michigan. Throughout his ministry at Mount Olive, he has provided faithful leadership in administration, member ministry, and stewardship while also serving the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod as a circuit pastor and chairman of the Asia One Team Administrative Committee. His greatest joy has always been helping people grow closer to God through His Word.
Pastor Zank joined Mount Olive in 1996 after serving as both a religion teacher and parish pastor. In addition to his ministry at Mount Olive, he faithfully served the wider church as President of the WELS Northern Wisconsin District for twelve years. Throughout his ministry, Pastor Zank has encouraged God’s people to grow in Christ and to joyfully share the good news of salvation with others.
Together with their wives, Sarah and Cindy, these faithful servants have become cherished members of the Mount Olive family. We thank God not only for their leadership but also for the Christ-centered example they have set through their lives and ministries.
